Marine Biomedical Launches Premier Biotech Manufacturing Facility in Broome

Dr Ruan and Dr Hiedari demonstrate the process of making PearlBone™ to Minister Dawson.

Broome takes centre stage as Marine Biomedical inaugurates its pioneering biotech manufacturing facility, marking a significant first for northern Australia. This revolutionary development is all about turning Broome's pristine pearl shells into the transformative PearlBone™ medical products. These are designed for a global audience, with a focus on trauma and reconstructive surgeries.

Western Australian Minister for Innovation and the Digital Economy; Science: Medical Research, Hon. Stephen Dawson MLC, celebrated the facility's opening and potential to bolster regional research and magnify the myriad of opportunities within the Kimberley region.

Central to this facility is the state-of-the-art Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) cleanroom. It’s been crafted to the highest standards, eyeing regulatory approvals from the likes of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

PearlBone™, stemming from the invention of Professor Minghao Zheng and Dr Rui Ruan at the University of Western Australia, leverages Broome’s silver-lipped pearl oyster's natural processes to facilitate human bone growth.

CEO of Marine Biomedical Pty Ltd, Mr Patrick Moase, hints at a bright future, sharing plans of upcoming full-scale batch productions in 2023, set to make waves in the biomedical sector.

Supported by grants from the Western Australian and Federal Government, this facility embodies the blend of innovation and regional growth.
