Patrick Moase

(B.A.S., Dip Mgmt., GAICD) Chief Executive Officer

With over 24 years marine biological experience as a scientific researcher, Patrick Moase has extensive knowledge of the Australian marine commercial sector and has advised on legislative direction and research programs.

Patrick has worked directly in the pearling and fishing industries for the past 30 years and sees the vision for medical device development of some of Australia’s greatest sustainably certified and ethically sourced marine resources.

Patrick is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, holds various Board positions, and is the current Chair of Broome’s St Mary’s College.

Dr Rui (Chris) Ruan

(MD., MBBS) Head of Medical Research and Production

Dr Ruan is a qualified Orthopaedic physician and spinal surgery specialist.

A post-doctoral research fellow of the University of Western Australia, Rui has undertaken extensive clinical translational research in Orthopaedics and Sport Medicine, resulting in ten publications and the development of one patent.

As the co-inventor of PearlBone™ and Marine Biomedical’s Head of Medical Research and Production, Rui works closely on the development of the product and has previously conducted the characterisation and biological validation tests on the product. He is investigating a range of other possible marine-based biomedical products, including overseeing the research of future medical devices and marine-based bio-additives.

Dr Behzad Shiroud Heidari

(PhD, M.Sc, B.Sc) Biomaterials Engineering Manager

Dr Heidari is a passionate Biomaterials Engineer with an aligned vision to create functional biomaterials for medical applications. His expertise spans knowledge in the formulation and design of biopolymers and biomaterials to improve product outcomes.

Behzad studied a PhD in Engineering at UWA and the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in Perth, Western Australia.

In early 2022, Behzad undertook an Internship with Marine Biomedical to refine bio-composites to compliment product differentiation with the ongoing development of PearlBone™ and in November 2022 became a full time employee with the Company.

Dr Heidari will work closely with the Medical Research and Quality Teams to help deliver a broad range of medical devices destined for regulatory approval.

Professor Ming Hao Zheng

(MD, PhD, FACP, FRACPA) – Scientific Medical Advisor & Director

As a Professor of Orthopaedic Research at the Division of Surgery at the University of Western Australia’s Medical School and Head of Bone and Brain Research at the Perron Institute, Minghao Zheng is suitably placed to elevate Marine Biomedical’s reputation as an innovative biotech company in the orthopaedic space.

Professor Zheng oversees the regulatory, quality, and technical strategies of the company.

Anne Cowie

(R.N) Quality Assurance Officer

Anne Cowie is a highly regarded health organisation executive and Registered Nurse with an extensive background in operating room nursing and orthopaedic surgery. Her clinical experience and knowledge of health care networks saw Anne play a key role in the development of musculoskeletal banking in Western Australia.

Anne was a founding member of the Australasian Tissue & Biotherapeutics Forum (now the Biotherapeutics Association of Australasia) and was pivotal in the creation of WA’s bone and tissue bank, PlusLife. Anne held the role of PlusLife Managing Director and Board Member for over 29 years before joining Marine Biomedical as Quality Assurance Officer.

Anne was the first Australian to be certified as a Tissue bank Specialist and holds and Executive Certificate in Health Service Management.

Maha McNamara

(BSc.) Quality Manager

Maha graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1998 with a major in Microbiology. Having worked with a global leading pharmaceutical company, and in national biotherapeutic and cosmeceutical companies, Maha has a diverse background with expertise in Quality Control and Assurance.

With further education in Six Sigma, Maha is committed to process flow refinement and development, complementing Marine Biomedical’s pathway to regulatory approval and manufacturing in the biotech industry.  She has worked in the Quality and Production sectors for over 15 years and will be working closely with Dr Ruan and the Regulatory Team on the development of PearlBone™ and other new and exciting products.

Professor Stuart B. Goodman

(MD PhD FRCSC FACS FBSE FIOR FORS)

Marine Biomedical is pleased to welcome Professor Stuart B Goodman as the latest addition to our Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee. Professor Goodman is the Robert L. and Mary Ellenburg Professor of Surgery, and Professor with Tenure in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Stanford University. He has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Bioengineering, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemistry, Engineering and Medicine for Human Health (ChEM-H) at Stanford University.

Stuart has more than 45 years of expert orthopaedic experience and knowledge and offers a unique opportunity to assist Marine Biomedical with the development of its PearlBone™ product range. In particular, Professor Goodman will contribute to our clinical trial design and regulatory strategy and provides a wealth of knowledge around meeting the challenges and clinical needs of the global orthopaedic industry.

Stuart will work closely with our Scientific and Product Innovation team, and will provide advice to the Board on opportunities that support the Company’s short, medium, and long term goals. In addition, we intend to have Stuart travel to our location in Western Australia annually to see the manufacturing process and source of our raw product.

Madeline Compston

(B.Sc) Quality Control Officer

Joining the Marine Biomedical team as a Quality Control Officer, Maddy brings her academic prowess to our newly built facilities in Broome.

Graduating from the University of Western Australia in 2019 with a major in Microbiology, Maddy is excited to begin her journey in her field of study. Equipped with an exceptional eye for detail and robust critical thinking skills, Maddy is prepared to take on vital responsibilities with the Quality Team.

Her role encompasses control and monitoring of quality elements paramount to the development and production of PearlBone™.
